Columbia is a truly delightful town that reflects the 1800's and the Gold Rush era! The buildings have all been re-done and house very active, busy businesses that range from home-made candy (oh, that fudge...), dry goods and historic reproduction clothing, souvenirs, and wonderful eateries. Musicians roam the street and Stagecoach rides are available. Gold panning can be experienced, too! Click on the thumbnail photos below to see some of this historic area. The first week of June brings what is known as the "Columbia Diggins" which was a really interesting and fun event. The re-creation of the early mining town is a far cry from the more romanticized version often seen on television or in the movies!! Here are some pictures we took at the 2004 Columbia Diggins: Blacksmith Bread Baker Lace Maker Saloon For more information about the history and current happenings at Columbia State Park, check out their website with the link below!
